Abstract

The return of failed products to field service (post-production quality service) raises costs and creates a loss of confidence in the product and the producer. It is a fact that suppliers' material deficiencies have some effect on field returns. In this paper, considering this effect, the relationship between suppliers' material deficiencies and field returns was examined using an optimal filtering technique employed in electrical engineering, and the prediction of field returns was identified with the prediction of the output of a causal finite impulse response (FIR) filter. Using the same procedure, the optimal choice of filter vector was also determined.
