In this study, a computer controlled radiation monitoring system
is developed for nuclear laboratories. The aim of this system is to
monitor the background radiation level of the radiation laboratories
using only one control centre. The system counts and evaluates pulses
that are generated in Geiger-Müller (G-M) detector. These pulses
obtained from the detector are transferred into counting input of a
microcontroller via a preamplifier. The evaluation of pulses can be
done by 87C51 microcontroller’s software. The data obtained from the
microcontroller are transferred to a computer through a RS232
protocol. A constituted computer program can evaluate and store these
data. It can also draw their graphs. This study can also be
characterised as a serial multi warning system.
