It is a widely adopted approach to woven fabric design in industry, to define the construction parameters of the fabric to give a certain fabric unit weight. It is also equally important, from the engineering point of view, to design a fabric which fulfils the conditions of weavability and certain quality criteria. It is, thus, the aim of this study to develop a method based on engineering approach in practical lines to design woven fabrics of simple or complex structures, including figured styles and double structures that satisfy these basic requirements. The method will particularly be useful if it is incorporated in computer aided woven fabric design software. © 2008 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
