Özet

The COVID-19 global pandemic has caused the death of nearly seven million people worldwide. SARS-CoV2 appears to affect children less than adults, causing fewer symptoms and less severe disease, and is associated with much lower mortality rates. However, it has been shown that children are as likely to be infected with SARS-CoV-2 as adults, but are less likely to develop severe symptoms. Although SARS-CoV-2 infection in children is less effective, it is an important source of transmission in homes, schools, and communities. Vaccination of children is important in the context of establishing effective herd immunity. Herd immunity is important because it can interrupt the chain of transmission for infectious diseases. The aim of this study was to answer the question “Does SARS CoV 2 inactivated verocell (Sinovac) vaccine have an effect on motor reflexes and physical development in lactating rat pups?” For this purpose, the first dose of Wistar Albino newborn rat pups was administered intramuscularly to the pups separated into the vaccine group (n: 7) on the 10th day after birth, and isotonic (0.9% NaCL-normal saline) was administered intramuscularly to the control group (n: 7). Each pup from the vaccine group was administered 0.125 ml (150 U) of the COVID 19 inactive vaccine to both hind legs in equal amounts of 0.062 ml. The pups in the vaccine group were vaccinated intramuscularly with the same dose 3 times at 14-day intervals. As a result, no negativity was observed between the control and vaccine group rats due to the in-cage vaccination of the pups. When the physical developments of the rat pups in both groups such as crawling, walking, furring time, teething time, and eye and ear opening time were compared, no significant difference was found between the two groups (p>0.05). When the motor reflex tests of the two groups were compared, it was determined that there was no significant difference between the two groups (p>0.05).  Keywords: Newborn Rat, COVID 19 Inactivated Vaccine, Physical and Motor Reflex Development
