Abstract

The faculty of engineering, Dokuz Eylül University, Turkey has attempted to improve its undergraduate education since 2001. The faculty has been influenced by the education reform within the university and by the progress of engineering education in the country and in the world. The outcome based evaluation of education programs, the implementation of problem based learning and the works on mutual recognition of study visits under the European student exchange programs (i.e. the calculation of credits based on the real loads of students) have taught the faculty: i) The importance and some basic facts of a learning centered organization of education and ii) why in absolute sense students must gain some predetermined educational outcomes.
