Özet

ABSTRACT

In this study competition theories were observed in practice. The aim of this study is to discuss Porter’s Three Generic Strategies in terms of a shipping company.  Henderson’s, Barney’s, and Porter’s views are discussed in the study for the shipping company. Data were collected by interview. A sort of differentiation is defined by the interviewee. A differentiated service is started to offer due to competition. The importance of the study is the observation of a sort of differentiation due to competition. Differentiation’s importance for survival is underlined by Henderson. According to the interview, competition forces the company to offer a differentiated service in a market segment which can be defined as a focus strategy. The personnel of the company developed different skills comparing other personnel in the industry as a result of the competition.
