Evaluation of the effect of nasal surgery to the olfactory sense

Abstract

Olfactory sense is one of the most important functions can be changed under the influence of various factors. We carried out studies to investigate the importance of the function of charm state in the evaluation septoplasty results. To study, conducted breath tests, and then to the surgery were recruited 35 patients with complaints of nasal obstruction and a diagnosis of a deviated septum, delivered by rhino- and endoscopic methods. Under general anesthesia in patients was performed septoplasty. Re-examination of the nasal cavity was conducted at 1 and 8 weeks after the operation. In the studies also were used methods of fluorimetry and rhinomanometry. Before and after surgery on the subjective evaluation of the results and ttest data showed a statistically significant decrease in parameters.
