Abstract

In open pit mining, the heap size distribution that results from blasting is one of the most important parameters in determining loader productivity. The characteristic heap size distribution, which is determined based on the mean size distribution and the coefficient of uniformity, directly affects the digging cycle time and the bucket fill factor of a loader, which in turn determines the loader productivity level. In this context, loader capacity can be estimated using the characteristic size distribution of the heap. In this study, a model was developed that can be used to estimate loader working capacity as a function of the characteristic heap size distribution using data obtained from 12 blast tests conducted at two different limestone quarries.
