Abstract

Changes in world trade and transport, their effects on world shipping and ports and the changes in the Aegean environment such as Europe, North Africa, Black Sea and Caspian Countries, Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean have brought out new opportunities for short sea shipping. This study analyzes the potential of short sea shipping for the Aegean region and develops extrapolations for the future. The Aegean region, being a bridge over the vital transport corridors of Europe, Asia and Africa, gets more involved in short sea shipping strategically. International successful developments in this area will only be achieved through effective market research and sound strategies for the future.
