A systematic accessibility improvement model for educational buildings

Özet
The objective of this study is to formulate an action plan for enhancing accessibility in buildings that will also systematically determine the steps to be taken in this respect. Therefore, it proposes a series of systematic improvements designed to enhance accessibility for individuals within educational buildings where physical accessibility is limited. The present study implements a multi-criteria model to enhance accessibility in buildings. This model comprehensively assesses the accessibility of educational buildings and adopts a systematic approach to planning improvements that will enhance accessibility within these buildings. The study thoroughly uses accessibility scale items to evaluate the buildings by tracking specific weightings and scoring them. Subsequently, items requiring enhancement are identified and a systematic action plan is implemented. The research has revealed a three-stage framework. First, specific weights were ascertained for the scale items within the purview of accessibility. Then, four educational buildings were evaluated in accordance with those scale items and assigned a rating in conjunction with their specific weights. Afterwards, an action plan based on urgency and cost was formulated on the basis of the specific weights and contexts of the scale items. A comprehensive evaluation of the four buildings revealed the necessary improvements, which were prioritised to guide actions. Consequently, the accessibility potential of educational buildings can be measured, providing guidance on necessary adjustments to improve accessibility. The study presents an innovative action plan model by organising complex information flows systematically. The implementation of this approach will automate the prioritisation of the accurate and high-impact improvements for educational buildings.
