Abstract

This paper presents the use of discrete-event simulation in evaluating alternative work-force allocation strategies in a video cassette production plant. The plant consists of four main departments which are Plastic Injection, Assembly, Loading and Packaging. But this study particularly focuses on the operations of the Assembly Department. The performance of alternative work-force strategies in meeting the planned production levels has been compared on the basis of daily throughput, utilisation of workers and assembly stations, and flowtime. The model of the assembly department has been developed in ARENA V2.2.
