Different type coals with varying sulphur content have been subjected to burning tests in a laboratory size stove. SO2 emissions have been determined by online detection and calculation from sulphur in ash. Lime added coal and briquettes have also been tested. Experimental results indicated that almost 90% of the sulphur is emitted during coal burning. In the case of lime added coal and briquettes 50% of the total sulphur was retained in the coal ash. This paper describes the apparatus used for combustion tests and chemical characteristics of the coal under investigation. Experimental results are given in tables and presented in graphical forms. The results and estimations are discussed.
