Tectono-Magmatic Evolution of the Selendi Basin, Western Anatolia

Özet:

Selendi Basin, which is one of the NE-trending Neogene depocenter in western Anatolia, is characterized by mainly two volcano-sedimentary successions separated by angular unconformity. These are Hacıbekir and İnay groups. The field data show the Hacıbekir Group was deposited in the hangingwall of a presently low-angle top to-the NE normal fault (Kula detachment) that juxtaposed the ductilely-deformed Menderes metamorphics from the brittely-deformed ophiolitic rocks of the İzmir-Ankara zone, during latest Oligocene (?) - Early Miocene. This crustal-scale movement was also associated with the intrusion of syn-extensional crust-derived granite (Rahmanlar granite) in the footwall. Deposition of the Hacıbekir Group was also accompanied by calc-alkaline felsic (Eğreltidağ volcanic unit) to mafic ultrapotassic volcanism (Kuzayır basalt). The geochemical data revealed that the Eğreltidağ volcanic unit was produced from the same source with the Rahmanlar granite, with addition minor mantle component. Geochemical characteristics of the Kuzayır basalt are similar to those of the lamproites. These tectonic and stratigraphic associations indicate that the deposition of the Hacıbekir Group was occurred on a detachment fault that controlled core-complex formation, probably associated with a subduction zone. The deposition of the İnay Group during early Middle Miocene postdated the activity of the detachment faulting. İnay Group also interfingers with the calc-alkaline intermediate-felsic volcanic rocks (Yağcıdağ volcanics). This study also revealed that the olivine-bearing basaltic rocks in the basin do not belong to the Kula volcanic unit, is named on the basis of geochemical data as Kabaklar volcanic.
