Özet:

Although Turkey has important lignite reserves, only 35% of this reserve are of quality lignite. A large part of this quality lignite reserve in the sites belong to E.L.İ( Ege Linyitleri Enterprise ). 65% of the lignite mined from these sites is extracted by open cost mining methods. However, as a detailed slope stability assessment has not been carried out on these sites, a number of slope instability cases were occurred which caused a number of problems and these problems have resulted in inefficient production of high quality lignite coal and an increase in production cost. For these reason, a detail slope stability assessment should be carried out on the site considered in order to determine the efficient and economical maximum slope angle which will stay stable during the life of the mine.

This thesis was done for ELI Soma region Işıklar open pit in the same purpose and consumption.
