Abstract

The structural and electrical properties of nanocomposite filaments with polypropylene including conductive polymer-polyaniline were analyzed. These materials are used in sensors, smart clothes, filters, geotechnical textiles and electro-magnetic interference shield materials. The structural and mechanical properties of nanocomposite filaments were examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The crystallinity increased slightly up to 54% as the content of filler increases, and decreased by 53% as filler content increased up to 3%. The electrical resistance tests of uncoated nanocomposite filaments revealed the conductivity of monofilament as low however, the electrical resistance of conductive polymer coated nanocomposite filaments indicated conductivity of these monofilament's as higher than uncoated ones. The electrical resistance of the coated filaments decreased and reached the limit values of semi-conductive materials and theses filaments should be converted into conductive textile structures.
