Abstract

Gels and glasses of the title system were prepared from alkoxides with and without addition of formamide as a DCCA. Bulk samples were produced as well as thin glassy films. The reaction kinetics (hydrolysis, condensation, gelling behavior) were studied by different methods. The viscosity of the solutions was measured as a function of time and composition. The 29Si NMR spectra were measured. The gelling time can be influenced drastically by varying the moment of the formamide addition. The amounts of ethanol (solvent) and HCl (catalyst) are important, too. By 29Si NMR the formation of Si-containing molecules could be detected, but no species with SiOTi or SiOZr bondings were found in the solutions. © 1990.
