The preparation of several amorphous calcium aluminate compositions by the sol‐gel procedure is reported. Although a broad composition range of amorphous gels could be prepared, they invariably crystallized when heated to sufficiently high temperatures. The crystallization behavior of bulk samples and thin gel films on SiO2 slides were studied with the aid of XRD. Also, IR spectra were obtained from room‐temperature and heated gels in order to evaluate the transformation which the gels underwent upon heating. Copyright © 1991, Wiley Blackwell.
