Storytelling is one of the most effective tools at our disposal. We all have an innate love of stories, and they teach us about life, ourselves, and others. Storytelling is a unique way for people to develop understanding, respect, and appreciation for other cultures: stories allow people to explore their cultural roots, experience diverse cultures, empathize with unfamiliar people/places/situations, offer insights into different traditions and values, to help them consider new ideas, to reveal differences and commonalities of cultures around the world, providing a bridge across the cultural gap. Stories also promote a feeling of well-being and relaxation, increase people's willingness to communicate thoughts and feelings and their verbal proficiency, and encourage active participation, use of imagination and creativity, cooperation, and listening skills.
In the last decade, entrepreneurs and HR have started realizing the power of a creative mindset. Most humans are more receptive to stories than to facts or data as stories help us relate, empathize, and remember: therefore, more businesses are increasingly recognizing the importance of storytelling and investing in it. Also, the recent digital revolution affected the very definition of culture to cover digital technology as a support for cultural content, and as a means of production, distribution, promotion, and monetization. The idea is to use different apps and methods to create short videos and learn about storytelling as a tool to make youth more confident in using technologies.
During a 7-day project, 20 youngsters from 4 different countries had the opportunity to finalize a digital storytelling project about an object of art of their choice in an archeological museum. They also get introduced to the world of history and art, analyzing cultural items and having the chance to create something by themselves.
