Project Abstract

The information age we live in is witnessing rapid developments in all fields of science and their reflection on human life is developing much faster than in the past. The development of information technologies also shows its effects in the design discipline. Architects and designers have been using these technologies for decades. However, traditional manual drawing methods are still used in concept sketching. At the stage of creating a concept model, computers are started to be used. In this study, a rapid sketch modeling method has been developed in the virtual reality (VR) environment to be used in the concept phase of the design. Thanks to the developed algorithm and the concept design phase, it is possible to make 3D sketches and view them. Therefore, the aim of the project is to develop a rapid modeling method with hand movements using virtual reality technology in the sketch phase of architectural design in order to develop a solution to the difficulties in transferring two-dimensional sketches to three-dimensional models in irrational form. The main expectation from the outputs of the project is to develop suggestions for the use of three-dimensional sketching process in a way that will benefit architectural design students and to integrate it into education. The original aspect of the project, unlike the existing studies, is the 3D modeling of the sketch by using tools in the virtual reality environment, averaging the different and multiple movements that respond to the quests of the sketch process, not the exact modeling.
