Today, the manufacturing
environment is characterized as having diverse products, high quality, short
delivery time and unstable customer demand. Because of the stiff competition in
today's marketplace, companies should be reactive to the rapidly changing
demand and improve their flexibility. In a highly competitive environment,
supply chain management is consulted as an effective way to help companies
reduce costs, to be reactive, thus gain competitive advantage.
The aim of this research is to provide a complete understanding of risk management in supplier networks and to gain how to model and manage SCs by considering complexity and risk issues in order to make them more flexible and efficient with the help of a decision support system (DSS) simulation environment. At the origin, the research activities were organized along three complementary axes: SC modeling methodologies, Risk Management in SCs, and simulation based supply chain management.
