Proje Özeti

SMART K9 aims to enhance SMART K9 aims to enhance the capabilities of Search and Rescue (SAR) dogs by leveraging genetic, phenotypic, and psychological insights combined with wearable technology and AI. Key objectives include identifying genetic markers linked to superior olfactory performance, optimizing SAR dog selection and training, and improving the handler-dog interaction to increase operational efficiency and welfare. SMART K9 also reduce SAR training costs and enhance disaster response capabilities by developing innovative breeding strategies and integrating real-time performance monitoring. SMART K9 will use a multidisciplinary approach integrating genomics, wearable technologies, and ML models. GWAS and RNA-Seq will identify genetic markers for olfactory traits. Wearable sensors will collect real-time physiological and behavioural data during training and operations. ML will analyse these data sets to optimize training protocols and predict performance. SMART K9 also includes psychological assessments to improve handler-dog communication and effective teamwork. All findings will be consolidated into practical tools, training protocols, and policy recommendations. SMART K9 involves a multidisciplinary team: Genetics, AI, Mathematics, Veterinary, Psychology, Statistics, Engineering, Disaster Management, Social Psychology. SMART K9 aligns with the Horizon Europe Disaster Resilience and Crisis Management program by advancing SAR capabilities and disaster preparedness. SMART K9 contributes to improving the speed and accuracy of rescue operations, and promoting innovative methodologies for disaster management. It also emphasizes ethical considerations and sustainable practices, ensuring long-term benefits for SAR teams and society. This interdisciplinary initiative integrates cutting-edge science, technology, and social insights to set new standards in SAR dog training and breeding, offering transformative solutions for Europe’s disaster response capabilities.
